What is Relational Life Therapy?
RLT equips even the most challenging of couples with the guidance of a therapist or coach to come back to closeness using powerful relational tools. RLT offers an integrative approach to supporting couples. It was created by distinguished therapist Terry Real and equips people with lifelong skills to forge more authentic, honest, and intimate connections.
How does RLT work?
RLT works in 3 phases:
Phase 1: Waking up the Client
We directly but compassionately tell clients the truth about the dysfunctional stances they have learned and how they are showing up in their relationships.
Phase 2: Deep Trauma Work
Inner child work is conducted in the presence of the partner to help individuals heal from the trauma behind their dysfunctional stances. Trauma work done in this way elicits compassion, openheartedness, and understanding which enhance intimacy between partners.
Phase 3: Teaching Lifelong Relational Skills
The final phase is educating clients, teaching them the skills they need to continue nurturing their relationships and sustaining closeness and intimacy for life.
Why couples coaching?
Couples coaching helps couples improve their communication, deepen their connection, and resolve conflicts in a supportive and constructive manner. Couples coaching increases your knowledge about yourself, your partner, and the patterns of interaction between you. Couples coaching becomes effective as you apply newly gained knowledge to break ineffective patterns and develop better ones. When you begin your couples coaching, you embark on a transformative journey to learn the powerful relational skills to restore and reignite meaningful connections.
What preparation should we do for the first session?
Think about what you would like to get from the coaching experience. In other words, if this were to be an incredible experience, hat would have changed for you and your partner and what would you have gained?
When is the right time to start couples coaching?
Whenever you feel you’re having the same conflicts and can’t seem to resolve issues alone, it’s a good time to bring in another resource to help you find a way to repair and come back to closeness.
How effective is it for me to come to coaching alone without my partner?
In an ideal world, both you and your partner should come in for couples coaching, however, the good news is that in the real world, you can make changes that will improve the health of your relationship. It takes two to tango, but in reality, it only takes one to person change their dance steps to improve your coupling dance moves.
