Making Chocolate Chip Cookies

Making Chocolate Chip Cookies

Did you know that teaching your child a new skill like how to make chocolate chip cookies or how to change a tire can build self-confidence?

Any time your kids have an opportunity to learn something new and to create something exciting it builds self-confidence. And what can be more exciting for a young child than chocolate chip cookies, or a new driver that can change a flat tire.

Self-confidence is a skill that can be developed. One of the best ways to help kids build self-confidence is for you to give them opportunities to learn something new. Challenge them to stretch outside of their comfort zone. When they succeed at something new they feel a sense of accomplishment which, in turn, builds self-confidence.

Self-confidence is a skill that can be developed.

Give your children as many opportunities to be successful as you can find. Start small with things like putting together a simple model, and yes, making chocolate chip cookies. Even household activities such as folding their own laundry and setting the table can build confidence. Older children can run errands to the supermarket and post office while new drivers can even learn how to change a flat tire! Remember that success begets success.

By trusting in your child's abilities, you take your relationship to a higher level of closeness ,deeper understanding and tremendous satisfaction.

Thanks for your great ideas Bev. My children are now young adults and they have very fond memories of cooking together with me. It also taught them to be comfortable in the kitchen, which gave them a feeling of self-sufficiency. I look forward to cooking together one day with my grandchildren.

I'm so pleased you felt warm nostalgia from reading this article. Enjoy repeating the experience with your grandchildren.
