Dear Visitor,
One of the ways Relational Life Therapy differs from traditional couples therapy, is that with RLT I teach my clients the skills they need to live relationally so they can continue enhancing intimacy and working as a team long after their time with me comes to an end.
I teach a variety of relational skills, from soft power (standing up for yourself while cherishing your partner in the same breath) to encouraging rather than discouraging your partner’s efforts.
However, I can’t teach any of these skills until clients have mastered one core skill…
Relational mindfulness: the foundation from which all other relational skills stem.
Relational mindfulness teaches clients how to shift from their knee-jerk (adaptive child) responses in triggered moments of conflict into their considerate, relational, and more mature part of the brain (wise adult).
In this short video below, I share more about the importance of relational mindfulness in couples therapy, how it empowers clients, and helps move their relationship forward.
